Experts discuss ending amalgam in “women, children, and through them, future generations”

Experts hailing from twenty-one nations assembled in Bangkok on 14-15 May 2018 to present case studies, exchange ideas, and discuss strategies for ending the use of amalgam in “women, children, and through them, future generations.”

The United Nations Environment – World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry co-sponsored workshop brought together many experts – including leaders from government, non-profit groups, dentistry, manufacturing, universities, and United Nations – to share their wealth of experience in contributing to the end of amalgam use for children and others in a variety of settings.  For example:  Continue reading

Making dental amalgam history at COP1

The World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry is urging the nations of the Minamata Convention on Mercury to make dental amalgam history!

At the first conference of the parties (COP1), the World Alliance launched its new “Make Dental Amalgam History” campaign, a step-by-step plan to phase out the use of dental amalgam.  It complements the theme of the parties to the Convention, which is “Make mercury history.”

The Minamata Convention goes into force in 90 days!

The European Union and seven of its member states (Bulgaria, Denmark, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Romania, and Sweden) ratified the Minamata Convention on Mercury, thereby providing the last of the 50 ratifications needed to trigger its entry into force.  The Minamata Convention will now come into force in 90 days, on 16 August 2017.

The World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry salutes the work of the nations, the government officials, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the NGO leaders whose work led to this great achievement: the first major convention on toxins in the 21st century!

Environmental leaders plan future action against amalgam

UNEP and World Alliance urge phase down of dental amalgam use at INC7

UNEP-World-Alliance-side-event-INC7UNEP and the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry urge governments around the world to phase down dental amalgam use at a side event during INC7 in Dead Sea, Jordan.

UNEP and World Alliance jointly organized the side event, entitled “Implementing Successful Strategies to Phase Down Amalgam Use,” to highlight effective steps governments can take to move toward mercury-free dentistry.
