German NGO pushes for mercury-free dentistry
Headed by health advocate Florian Schulze, Gesellschaft für Schwermetall-Toxikologie (GST) is pushing for the phase out of dental amalgam in the European Union – and urging Germany to take the lead. Schulze was recently featured in an interview in the FreiePresse.
The German government already recommends against amalgam use in children and pregnant women. Now it is time for Germany to support ending amalgam use in all children and pregnant women in the European Union en route to a complete amalgam phase out no later than 31 December 2022.
Multi-stakeholder workshop on phasing down amalgam in China held in Beijing
On October 25, 2016, representatives from All-China Environment Federation (ACEF), World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry (WAMFD), Asian Center on Environmental Health (ASEH), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ministry of Environmental Protection’s Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO,MEP), Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Center of Ministry of Environmental Protection, Peking University School of Stomatology, Jiacui Environmental Promotive Center as well as dental specialists from local hospitals and district-level clinics gathered at Beijing for “Multi-Stakeholder Workshop on Phasing Down Dental Amalgam in China.” The workshop was jointly hosted by ACEF, WAMFD and ASEH. Civil society organizations celebrate Africa Day for Amalgam-Free Dentistry
Civil society organizations (CSOs) across the continent are celebrating the third annual Africa Day for Amalgam-Free Dentistry. The celebration this year is a particularly special one since they are calling upon African governments to ban the use of mercury-containing dental amalgam in children’s milk teeth.
Since, children are a vulnerable population and it is certain that the amalgam’s mercury in their milk teeth has for its final destination the environment, Africa CSOs dedicated this day, to raise awareness of all relevant stakeholders in order to push for the total ban of this mercury product in milk teeth.
